The Importance of AADSM
The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) was established in 1991, and at the time of this writing, acts as the only non-profit national professional society dedicated exclusively to the practice of dental sleep medicine. Dentists who are trained in dental sleep medicine use Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) to treat sleep-disordered breathing, including snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
Approximately 54 million Americans suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and if left untreated, OSA has been linked to some serious health problems, including but not limited to high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, stroke, diabetes, and depression. Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is an effective first-line therapy or CPAP alternative for those suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and the AADSM helps to advance dentists’ roles in the screening, evaluation, and treatment of sleep-disordered breathing.
Celebrating 30 Years
Not only will this year’s annual conference be the first in-person meeting since 2019, but the AADSM will also simultaneously be celebrating 30 years since its inception and its 30th Annual Meeting. This year’s meeting will feature sessions tailored for interaction with other attendees, and will also include a ticketed gala on Saturday evening to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the AADSM.
SomnoMed & AADSM
The AADSM Annual Meeting is open to dentists, dental team members, physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals who treat or have an interest in treating patients with sleep-disordered breathing, with something to offer to everyone. This year, we are proud to announce that SomnoMed will be exhibiting as a platinum sponsor.
At our booths, the #SomTeam will be exhibiting SomnoMed’s innovative OSA treatment options and the dawn of a new era in OSA therapy. We’ll also be showcasing our Medical Initiative™, where we work collaboratively with dentists and physicians in pursuit of a common, universal commitment: to treat more OSA patients, more effectively. We’ll be sharing exceptional demonstrations of collaborations that put Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) in its appropriate, central position within the OSA treatment ecosystem.
Sleep dentists who have a broad understanding of Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) work with a patient’s physician to treat and manage snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and once a patient is diagnosed with primary snoring or sleep apnea by a physician, a dentist trained in dental sleep medicine can provide effective treatment with OAT. That’s why, here at SomnoMed, we help to facilitate that collaborative ecosystem, cultivating and fostering industry collaborations that will produce the research, education, awareness of, and pathways to oral appliance therapy as a primary solution to successful OSA treatment.
